Glass Ionomer Cement

Glass Ionomer Cement

Glass ions came out in the early 1970s. Different from the composite resin, glass ions form chemical bond with teeth in the form of hydrogen bond and ion bond, with good sealing. At the same time, it can release calcium, phosphorus, fluorine and strontium plasma into the tooth tissue, promote the remineralization of demineralized dentin, and have the effect of caries prevention. In addition, glass ionomer has good biocompatibility, minimal stimulation to dental nerve, simple operation, and is more easily accepted by young children. However, the long-term efficacy of glass ions is poor. There are some disadvantages, such as poor wear resistance, high brittleness, low strength, long complete curing time, rough surface and easy coloring, plaque easy to adhere to the surface to form secondary caries, and the color is also inferior to that of composite resin.
